hi guys,

Can someone please guide me if there is any way to move shared folders from a windows server 2000 server to a windows server 2003 server with share and ntfs permissions of them? [The way I have setup folder permission is, giving 'full control' for the  'domain users' group of both domains and has customized permissions using sharing (read, change, full control), but there some situations that I have used ntfs permissions to deny permissions for some files and folders which are in the shared folders and the same user may have read or change access to its root folder, I'll need to transfer all these permission exactly as they are] I'm in windows server 2000 AD forest (mix mode) (two domains) and now I need to upgrade one 2000 file server to a 2003 server as the first step of migration from server 2000 to server 2003. It is very hard to arrange permission again since there are more than 150 shared folders with very much customized permissions.  any idea.. please guide steps..

Hi Shirmal,

This is quite tricky one. My advice is do test on a virtual lab environment. As for the guideline please refer to the following urls. Apart from that for your migration you need to definitely look into "Microsoft Migration Toolkit" it is build to less your burden on these tasks. Nirvana for admins Big Smile
