what is the best RAID for Exchange server - most of them are saying that os-raid1 and exchange database, log on the RAID5 = total 5 disks

basically we have only 100 mail boxes . half of the mail users are connect via data ip VPN or lease line . Just I am thinking of going with RAID1 - OS and the Exchange on the same  to reduced the cost .but I have no idea on the performance and the technical concern .

because we have only 100 odd clients . but 5 HDD is beter to have or not in case ?

I am planning to get the Hp DL 380 G6  server with 6GB memory  2* 300 gb with all in RAID1 ?

Hi cur,

Even though you're having 100 users what would be the monthly or weekly e-mail receiving volume? This is very important consideration for your hardware capacity planning on your Exchange server implementation. Apart from that are you planning for a Exchange 2010 or 2007? Exchange 2010 have the capability to use low cost disk drives as well (Eg: SATA) so you can consider them as well.

Your selected server spec seems to be really good but I still doubt the hard disk capacity. Have a second look into that. RAID 5 for the mailboxes has been given with carefully consideration in a case of a disaster. Have a look in here to get some idea about the consideration. I'm not a exchange server pro but some other members will get in touch with you for more information :)
